Every 29 October, World Stroke Day reminds us of the importance of knowing about this neurological disorder that affects millions of people around the world. Stroke, also known as cerebrovascular accident, occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, either by a blockage in an artery (ischaemic) or by a haemorrhage (haemorrhagic). Speed of action is critical, as every minute that passes without treatment increases the risk of brain damage and, in many cases, mortality.
Warning signs and how to act
Knowing the symptoms of stroke can save lives. The most common signs are weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or understanding, and loss of coordination or vision. If someone has these symptoms, it is essential to act quickly and call 911. In these cases, time is of the essence to reduce long-term effects and possible complications.
The work of the Freno al Ictus Foundation in awareness raising and prevention
Freno al Ictus is an association that plays an essential role in stroke prevention and awareness in Spain. Its main objective is to reduce the impact of stroke on society through information campaigns, educational programmes and training to facilitate early identification of symptoms. It also works closely with companies and organisations to promote brain-safe working environments, making first aid training accessible and raising awareness of the importance of rapid action in the event of an emergency. Its work has been instrumental in improving knowledge about stroke and reducing stroke-related disability.
Gmp’s commitment to brain health: Cerebroprotegido Certification
At Gmp, we are committed to the health and well-being of our users and visitors to our buildings. We have therefore taken a further step towards creating safe spaces by obtaining the ‘Cerebroprotegido’ certification at ARQBÓREA, Castellana 77, Génova 27, Luchana 23, Orense 34, oxxeo and Castellana 81, which was the first brain-protected multi-client office building in Spain. In addition, Parque Norte is in the final phase of certification and will become the first brain-protected business park in our country.
This certification ensures that our buildings have measures and equipment to act in the event of a stroke, as well as providing training to our staff on how to recognise and react quickly in the event of such an emergency. In this way, we actively contribute to stroke prevention and care, promoting safer and healthier working environments.
