Sustainable mobility, a strategic issue for the city of the future

Mobility is one of the core transformative concepts in our economy, in our society and on the road to sustainability. This is why sustainable mobility has become a key factor when we consider what shape our cities will take in the future.Sustainable mobility plays an increasingly significant role due to growing concerns about climate change, its impact on city life and the need to reduce our dependence on oil. But the impact goes further than that, sustainable mobility is also of vital importance in improving the quality of life of people in cities , reducing traffic congestion, noise and environmental pollution.

Sustainable mobility is linked to the major global challenges of descarbonization and digitalization. This is why all the actors involved in its transformation are rethinking the future of mobility and its infrastructures, issues which have become particularly relevant after the global pandemic.

Aligned with Gmp’s efforts to ensure that the environment impact of our buildings and activity are reduced further, as an organization, we are also particularly aware of the new paradigm of the city developing before us.

Trends in sustainable mobility

Cities are committed to becoming pedestrian-centric by developing and deploying connectivity projects to achieve more efficient mobility, promoting alternative transport, improving public transport and making it more sustainable.

The goal of our cities is to move towards an urban mobility system where the challenge is to ensure a shift towards more sustainable modes. As a solution to this, the use of electric vehicles, which emit less carbon dioxide than combustion vehicles, has become a growing trend.

Implementing more efficient and sustainable public transportation systems, such as electric trains and buses is another key trend. Public transport is undoubtedly the most important urban mobility system and needs to be designed more effectively to enhance use.

Micromobility is another growing trend in sustainable mobility. These systems are based on light, low-speed means of transport such as electric or conventional scooters or bicycles. These systems are often integrated into public services that allow for interchangeable and shared use. This new trend is clearly beginning to take root in our cities.

Gmp’s commitment to sustainable mobility

At Gmp we maintain a firm commintment to the Sustainable Development Goals and, the SDGs we have identified as a priority, sustainable mobility is central to achieving SDG 11 whici aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable spaces.

In pursuit of this goal, we provide parking spaces in our buildings for electric vehicles in a ratio that doubles the current regulations. We also have charging points for electric scooters in our multi-customer buildings and designated bicycle spaces in our car parks.

Our Gmp Smart app also offers two functionalities that promote sustainable mobility. The first feature is “Comparto mi coche/i car share”, an option where app users can share their daily commute to their offices with other members of the Gmp community. The second, “Electric vehicle recharging” allow users to charge electric cars at the stations installed in our car parks.
