The “Compromiso Autismo” program, a social initiative by the real estate group Gmp, has been recognized as the Best Integrated Social Project of the Year at the GRI Europe 2024 Awards, which were announced on September 10 in Paris.
The GRI Awards are among the most prestigious real estate sector honors worldwide, recognizing companies that go beyond conventional approaches in their pursuit of excellence. Hundreds of projects compete in various categories, with the social category specifically evaluating commitment to positive social impact. The first round of voting, which selects the top 10 nominees in each category, is conducted by 400 senior professionals from the real estate industry. The three finalists and the winner are then determined through a public vote, limited to one vote per category.
“Compromiso Autismo” is a social initiative by Gmp and Fundación Gmp, developed in collaboration with Federación Autismo Madrid and Fundación Autismo Calidad y Vida (AUCAVI). It is a comprehensive and specialized training program designed for the educational community, ensuring that students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) receive the best possible education tailored to their needs.
As a pioneering and unique initiative in Spain, this project addresses a real and urgent need. In a short period, “Compromiso Autismo” has become a benchmark in the Spanish educational sector. The program is aimed at all school staff, both teaching and non-teaching personnel, equipping them with methodologies, knowledge, and tools tailored to the specific needs of these students.
Since its launch in 2019, the “Compromiso Autismo” program has certified 8 schools in the Madrid region. This year, it expands to the Region of Murcia, incorporating three new schools in collaboration with the Regional Ministries of Social Policy, Families and Equality, and Education and Vocational Training of Murcia, as well as the ASTRADE Association and the Murcia Autism Federation (FAUM).
Additionally, Confederación Autismo España and Fundación Gmp offer the “Inclusive Education for Students with Autism” course free of charge—an online training program for educators that has already trained over 20,000 professionals across Spain.
The award ceremony took place in Paris as part of the Europe GRI conference, an event that brings together the key players in the European real estate market.
Upon receiving the award, Silvia Llanes, Director of ESG and Innovation and President of Gmp’s ESG Committee, highlighted how this award reinforces Gmp’s strong commitment to improving the quality of life and employment integration of people with intellectual disabilities. She also expressed her gratitude to the organizations that have collaborated on this project and, especially, to everyone who voted for “Compromiso Autismo,” making this recognition possible.
